We’ve got a crew of six who run the Huntington operation, and they’ve all got one thing in common: they’d rather do a job twice than let it leave half-done. That sounds like something you’d put on a truck, but around here it’s just how the day goes. Russell Haines started this company in 1984, and he’s only kept people who treat somebody else’s fireplace like it’s in their own house. No exceptions.

Russell Haines, Owner
I’ve been climbing roofs in Suffolk County since 1984, and I still get up there when a job’s got something weird going on. Started Hearthstone Chimney Co. with a brush and a ladder, and now we’ve got Level-2 camera rigs and six crews, but the work hasn’t changed much. I’m CSIA-certified and I train every technician personally on our K.E.Y.S. code: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. Off the clock, I’m usually restoring a 1970s Triumph motorcycle in my garage in Northport. Something about taking something apart and putting it back better than you found it.
Mike D., Lead Technician
Mike’s been with us fourteen years, and he’s the guy we send when a chimney’s got a history. He’s seen every kind of creosote buildup Huntington’s salt air can cook up, and he can spot a deteriorating flue tile from the basement smell before he even unpacks his gear. CSIA-certified and factory-trained on DuraFlex liner systems. He’s also the one who remembers every dog’s name on his route. Homeowners ask for him by name, and we don’t blame them.

Carla handles our cap, crown, and rebuild work, and she’s particular about materials in a way that saves people money five years down the road. She won’t use a Gelco cap where a custom Copperfield fabrication makes more sense, and she’ll tell you straight up why. Ten years in, she’s installed chimney caps from Cold Spring Harbor to Commack, and she’s got a running tally of which neighborhoods get the worst wind-driven rain. Grew up in a family of masons in Greenlawn. Still checks her grandfather’s old level against her laser.
James T., Service Coordinator
James answers the phones and schedules the crews, which means he’s the live voice you get when you call (631) 776-4075 at 10 PM on a Saturday because you smelled something odd. He’s been with us eight years, knows every technician’s strengths, and he’s the one who makes sure we’re not booking a rebuild in Huntington when Mike’s already committed in Melville. He grew up in Dix Hills, coaches Little League in the spring, and he’s unusually good at explaining why your chimney can’t wait until November.
Derek S., Apprentice Technician
Derek’s in his third year with us, and he’s already handling standard sweeps and inspections solo. He’s working toward his CSIA certification and he’s shadowed Mike on enough tricky jobs that he’s starting to develop that same nose for trouble. He’s the one who cleans the camera lens without being asked and writes his reports the way we taught him: documented like an engineer, explained like a craftsman. Lives in East Northport with his grandfather’s old tool chest. We’re keeping him.
